Every Chief AI Officer program we could verify, from Chicago Booth, Duke, LBS, NTU and NUS to IIM Kozhikode and TÜV SÜD, with fees, format, next cohort and the modules each one teaches.
Short answer: we found 26 executive programs built for the Chief AI Officer seat. List prices run from €2,700 (TÜV SÜD, 3 days) to US$28,000 (Chicago Booth, 10 months); 9 providers only reveal the fee after you apply. Most mix live-online modules with a short campus immersion, and almost all teach the same core: AI strategy, responsible AI governance and leading change.
This directory lists executive programs that carry the Chief AI Officer title, or a combined Chief Data & AI Officer title, across the US, Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Gulf. Each entry records the provider, delivery partner, format, length, published fee, next cohort and the curriculum modules as the provider published them when we checked on 22 October 2026. Generic AI-for-executives courses are excluded unless the provider positions them for the CAIO seat. Nobody paid to be listed, and the order is alphabetical by region, not a ranking.
We mapped every published module to fourteen recurring themes. The bar shows how many of the 26 programs teach each theme. Coding and model building are almost absent: these are leadership programs.
Published list prices for the 17 programs that disclose one, in approximate US dollars (1 EUR ≈ 1.16 USD, 1 GBP ≈ 1.33 USD, 1 CHF ≈ 1.25 USD). The other 9 reveal the fee only during application.

How should you choose between them?
Start from the gap, not the logo. If you come from engineering, weight governance, board communication and change modules. If you come from strategy or consulting, look for data architecture, build-vs-buy and scaling content such as Carnegie Mellon's or NTU's. Our how-to-become guide maps the skills by background.
Price the immersion, not just the tuition. Duke's two five-day weeks, LBS's two four-day blocks and IIM Kozhikode's Dubai immersion add travel and time away. Cornell, Imperial and the World AI University course need none.
Check who actually teaches. Many university-branded programs are run by Emeritus, Great Learning, XED or upGrad, which handle admissions, success coaches and the learning platform while faculty deliver sessions. That is normal in executive education, but ask how many live faculty hours you get.
We read every provider's own program page on 22 October 2026 and link it on each entry. Fees are the list price the provider published, before taxes, early-bird or group discounts; approximate US dollar bands are only for filtering. Many Emeritus- and Great Learning-run programs gate the fee behind an application form, so 'Not published' means exactly that. Module titles are copied from the provider's syllabus, which most providers label indicative and subject to change. Confirm dates and fees with the provider before you apply.
Fee bands and the price chart convert pounds, euros and Swiss francs to approximate US dollars (1 EUR ≈ 1.16 USD, 1 GBP ≈ 1.33 USD, 1 CHF ≈ 1.25 USD). Taxes, application fees and travel for campus immersions are excluded. Logos belong to their institutions and identify each program; their use does not imply endorsement.

There is no single best one; the right program depends on the gap you need to close and the network you want. Chicago Booth, Duke and London Business School are the premium, campus-heavy options at US$25,000 to US$28,000 or £22,000. Cornell and SMU, both run with XED, are the low-cost university options at US$5,400. Carnegie Mellon Heinz has the deepest data and AI engineering syllabus (19 modules), and NTU Nanyang Business School publishes the most granular CAIO curriculum (22 modules in six pillars). Pick on curriculum fit first and brand second.
How much does a Chief AI Officer program cost?
Published list prices on 22 October 2026 ranged from €2,700 net for the three-day TÜV SÜD course to US$28,000 for Chicago Booth. Most university executive programs with campus immersions sit between US$16,000 and US$25,000, while live-online university certificates such as Cornell and SMU cost US$5,400. Travel and accommodation for immersions are usually extra, and several Emeritus-run programs (NTU, Imperial, IIM Kozhikode, NUS CTAIO) only disclose the fee during application.
Are there online Chief AI Officer programs?
Yes. Imperial College's Chief Data and AI Officer Programme and the World AI University course are fully online, and Cornell's program is 16 live online sessions with no campus requirement. Most others are mostly online with a short campus component, ranging from a one-day networking event (NTU, NUS) to two five-day immersions (Duke). Carnegie Mellon offers a virtual option for its Pittsburgh sessions.
Do I need a CAIO certificate to become a Chief AI Officer?
No. Boards hire Chief AI Officers for a record of shipping AI at scale and running governance, not for a credential. A program earns its cost when it closes a named gap, such as governance for a technical leader or model-lifecycle fluency for a strategist, and when the cohort becomes a useful peer network. Our certification guide covers that decision in more depth.
What do Chief AI Officer programs teach?
Almost every program we checked covers AI strategy, responsible AI governance and leading organizational change. Most also cover data strategy, generative AI fluency, AI economics and build-vs-buy decisions, and scaling pilots into production. Agentic AI and board-level communication became standard modules in the 2026 syllabi, while hands-on coding is almost entirely absent: these are leadership programs, not technical bootcamps.
